Okay look, it’s been 7 months. Let’s not even discuss it, and just move on.
I’ve enjoyed a ton of Android games, with reviews in a few posts:
I also went to Japan for an amazing 3 weeks(!), reviewing ~150 places we visited whilst there. These reviews were collected in 5 parts: Tokyo Part 1, Takayama Part 2, Kyoto Part 3 and Part 4, and Tokyo again Part 5.
Finally, I wrote a guide to automated Steam trading card farming & selling, to finally make a bit of money off the hundreds of unplayed games in my library.
Unsurprisingly I’ve seen quite a few cool things online in the last half a year! Here’s a random selection I happened to bookmark, maybe you’ll enjoy a few:
A map of “notable people” based on Wikipedia, zoom in to where you live and find out who was born in your specific area.
A video of how an epipen works, since the “jab into a limb, and magic happens” was always a little confusing.
A somewhat unserious history of the user-agent string, a much-abused bit of text every browser sends containing many lies.
A detailed write-up of a romance scam farm, focusing on how people get trapped in these “jobs”, the cause of most “wrong number” texts you receive.
Ever wondered the best way to pack various shapes into various shapes? Lucky you, there’s a summary!
A live map of the London Underground’s trains, including their exact location.
Amongst the many things to love in Japan, one of them is their adorable bird & beep crossing sounds. In Tokyo, east/west and north/south crossings make different sounds, so a 4-way junction results in a lovely little song made by both the crossings! It’s impossible to find a clear clip of this (since it’s only played at busier crossings), this is the closest I found.
An absurd clip of a man interacting with realtime ChatGPT for weight estimations. If the AI gets it wrong, it has to chat to items in the fridge. Comedic innovation.
I shared a post-per-city from Japan on Instagram, we had ~20 busy days so picking just a few photos from each area was very tricky!
I finished my final dissertation for my MBA (10k words, 35 pages), hopefully that all goes OK…
I received a promotion at work from Staff Android Engineer → Principal Android Engineer, yippee. Realistically my day-to-day work doesn’t change whatsoever, but the recognition is very appreciated.
I’m currently working on a new project, very exciting but too soon to share anything. It’s a lot to learn & build, but it’s in an area I personally care about (& would pay for), could provide a solid side income, and will be a learning experience even if it never releases. I have annual leave to work on it in December, so maybe progress update then 👀
That’s all, it’s been a busy 6 months, maybe I’ll post again sooner than that!
