Happy halloween! For.. a couple of days ago. Close enough.
I reviewed 4 more Android games, with a nice mixture of retro 2D, Netflix-backed 3D, cats, and indie oddities!
Early this year I learned Next.js, TypeScript, and all kinds of modern web technology. This was to work on “BountyHour”, a micro-contracting marketplace idea that I eventually gave up on. However, I still learned a lot, and was able to open source & give a retrospective on all the progress made.
I added a BIG new feature to my “minimaJake” Jekyll theme, the ability to display a calendar with custom events and “year since” calculations! This was for my Internet History site, the release notes & detailed technical post contain far more information.
Speaking of Internet History, as part of an upcoming StumbleUpon article I needed to download a few hundred past versions of a webpage, then extract thousands of links contained within. As usual, I wrote a detailed guide to the process, and open sourced the resulting data.
At work I experienced an… interesting issue, where cloud Android builds would just seemingly get bored and stop doing anything! It was an easy fix once I knew how, with the misconfiguration being completely my own fault. Oops.
Aerial photos of the Apollo 11 lander taken by 5 different countries’ satellites. Interesting comparison, although given the date differences (and different motivations to release / not release), drawing any conclusions isn’t really possible.
A recent technical tutorial video somehow seamlessly changed the video’s contents to match the website’s light/dark theme! This seemed magical initially, and seeing behind the curtain (use graphics that work in both modes, then have 2 videos, one with each background) was a little disappointing.
YouTube had been recommending one of Any Austin’s videos to me for weeks, and I’d been stubbornly ignoring it, assuming it was clickbait gaming slop. I finally gave in, and… they’re great! They’re all great! Slow, meandering, relaxing, unexpected directions, I’ve ended up binging most of the non-Nintendo videos since.
An italian gin website styled like an immersive 3D 60’s garage/diner? Sure, why not.
I tried watching an episode of Seinfeld around 10 years ago. I tried again this year on Netflix, and… I love it. It’s easily one of my favourite sitcoms of all time, I’m even listening to a podcast (Seincast) about it. Considering basically everyone I find funny loves it I shouldn’t be surprised, I’m extremely late to the party though!
A cat charity I support is selling Christmas jumpers, I’ve ordered mine. Nothing else to report, have a good week!
