Back in the early-to-mid 00;s, I was doing live comedy shows more regularly in New York, at places like Luna Lounge on the lower east side, and Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale’s seminal show Invite Them Up at Rififi in the east village.
In 2004, Invite Them Up was the first place/time I tried a particular bit that eventually had the good fortune of becoming a book in 2011:
As stated on the cover, the book features a bunch of fake documents from the world of rock and roll, including the letters to ZZ Top from my dead dad. I love reading it.
Famous people love reading it.
Regular people love reading it.
Gatsby loves reading it:
Even ZZ Top loves reading it!!!
