Sega Dreamcast Collection Update: 66/248 Games

As of the time of this publication, I have 66 Sega Dreamcast games so far out of a total of 248 that were officially released in North America during the console’s lifespan. My goal is to gradually collect, play, and eventually review, all of them. Once a couple more arrive in the mail, I’ll have at least every launch title, which is a great milestone to hit!

If you’re curious about how things are going, here is my spreadsheet. I’ve listed every single Sega Dreamcast game in order of release along with the developer, publisher, and my own status of collecting it whether it be disc only, disc and case, disc and manual, complete, or bootleg. I’ve still got a long way to go!

While I collect this library of games, I’m only counting authentic discs as part of my collection. I do have some bootleg games in there and things like that, but I don’t count those as owning a copy of the game for real. I need to replace those eventually, preferably before I get to them in the review list.

I’m over 25% of the way there, so I feel pretty good about the progress. I’ve already knocked out some of the pricier ones, but there are still many others that will be big hits to my pocket. I hope that they turn up at my favorite local shop so I can take advantage of store credit to grab them.

Since my previous game collection post (you can read that here) I’ve added seven more Dreamcast games. These are a mixture of Facebook Marketplace, eBay auctions and purchases, local stores, and one from a friend that was sent as repayment for a favor.

The seven games I added to boost my collection more are:

• Mortal Kombat Gold

• NFL 2K1

• PenPen Trilcelon

• Power Stone

• San Francisco Rush 2049

• Sega Smash Pack Volume 1

• Street Fighter Alpha 3

• TNN Motorsports Hardcore Heat

The only games out of these that I’d actually played before are San Francisco Rush 2049 and Power Stone, both in the arcade. I had a bootleg copy of Power Stone with a reproduction case, the case is great quality, so I just replaced the disc with an authentic one. And now I need the manual to finish that one off!

I’ve never played Dino Crisis so I’m hyped about that one and Street Fighter Alpha 3 is pretty highly regarded. The others are a pretty diverse mixture. PenPen, Mortal Kombat Gold, and TNN Motorsports are all launch titles so I needed those for the review project soon of course, and Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 I got for free from a friend, it just needs the actual case (he included the manual), and NFL 2K1 I grabbed for a few bucks on eBay.

Other than those seven games, I’ve added several accessories as well, such as the Mad Catz MC2 Racing Wheel, which came complete in box! It’s commonly regarded as one of the best wheels for the Dreamcast, so I’ll definitely be using it when reviewing racing games and will do a dedicated video and write up for it and other accessories as well.

I was also able to get the ASCII Mission Stick flight stick at a great price, which is really exciting. I’ll be doing a dedicated review of it and also ranking all of the flight games specifically using the Mission Stick too.

Finally, I also got the new Retro Fighters D6 controller, which is designed specifically for fighting games and 2D games with a form factor very similar to the Sega Saturn controller, as well as a few more VMUs so I don’t have to worry about save space for a while.

I’ll be looking ahead on my list of games to review so I can better prepare with any future accessories I might need in advance, like eventually getting an arcade stick, the fishing controller, the maracas, keyboard, and so on. It’s gonna be a fun journey!

And if you’re interested at all in other games I’ve gotten recently for my overall game collection, which is now officially over 700 physical games, those include: Superman, Castle of Illusion, Alien Storm, and Burning Force all for Sega Genesis, the Japanese versions of Guardian Heroes and Burning Rangers for Sega Saturn, Scooby-Doo Night of 100 Frights for Nintendo GameCube, and Unicorn Overlord for PS5.
