Where do I start?
I’ve been putting off placing my thoughts into this space because, truly, what is there left to say? Surely there are more, better voices saying it.
I, an immigrant, who came of age invested in the American dream, warmed by mythology borne of Ellis Island thus believing that within these borders excellence was the ultimate equalizer.
A dream indeed.
For over a year we have watched the world we recognize fall away and it has been hard to think about art in any real way. Hard to lean again upon the familiar saying of “when it is darkest is when artists go to work”, because it has been so very dark for so long.
Where is the light?
When will the sun rise?
Or, must we, in this dark, make tiny sparks and hope that the embers glow bright enough for us to see each other, however briefly.
So here is a spark.
Thoughts as kindling.
May their light reach they who need it.
