Hi loves! WELL I thought I posted this yesterday but it was still in the queue. I’m at the beach without my laptop on a phone that can only be as smart as I am. I’ll do better!
First, if you follow me for a usually-on-Thursday evening post, please come with me to Fierce Love Fridays. I’m going to try to hit your mailbox right as work ends on Friday, at around 5p.
As a Black Feminist and Womanist, grieving the state of our global neighborhood, I’m going to use my space to talk about facing a racist and increasingly fascist world with fierce love. I’m going to share resources and stories of resistance and resilience. I’m going to open my heart in front of you because I’m traumatized, triggered and terrified that too many of us are not angered by the resurgence of white supremacist ideologies in every corner of our lives. This conversation will be multi-ethnic BUT will acknowledge that the construct of race starts with anti-Blackness. I expect to be tangy here and also make you laugh some because joy is resistance.
I’ll be leaning into the intersections of faith, justice, politics and the arts because those are my passions. Because the personal is political, you’ll read some of my business here. I’ll be vulnerable and I hope you will be, too. I’m a Black woman writing for a multi-ethnic audience BUT I’m centering Black experiences because I must.
Let’s learn together. Let’s kick the evil twins-racism and fascism-in the butt. Everything that plagues our society starts with them.
Watch my video essay below and here are resources for this week to (re)read:
-Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
-Decolonizing Wealth by Edgar Villanueva
-When God Became White by Grace Ji-Sun Kim
In fierce love,
Jacqui
