Miles Okazaki’s great new album Boomtown is out now. We play at the Jazz Gallery this Wednesday and Thursday July 15-16.
You can buy the album here. I play a solo on “Bighorn” but my favorite track is the microtonal slow burn “Hole in the Wall”. Who new just intonation could be so funky?
In other nice recent things, I got second place as trombonist of the year in Downbeat Magazine’s annual critic’s poll. This is an honor with a long, storied tradition, going way back to the days of Lester Young and Duke Ellington, and I’m tickled to rank so highly here.
Mary Halvorson’s Amaryllis won “Group of the Year” and her album “About Ghosts” was second place for “Album of the Year”. The issue itself will be posted online in a few weeks.
