Facebook is an advertising company. It makes a considerable amount of money from advertising[1]. This is not to be shocking but a warning. The fact that someone has managed to flip it in the app is indicative of whatever soft attempt that they had with "joining the Fediverse" could introduce them scooping up the open social Web as part of a larger advertising network beyond their walls. App developers of the Fediverse need to brace themselves for this.
The head of product mentioned this intent. If anything, we need to get more serious about enabling some means of "creator sustainability" in the Fediverse; being open isn't enough now. The infection of surveillance capitalism into the open social Web has been here.
