In May, while I was up on the campus of St. John’s University, I collected two dozen sprouting acorns (from Red Oaks) and have since grown them into saplings. (See above photo).
I will be driving up to St. John’s later today to begin planting the saplings back on campus grounds.
If you hold someone in your heart for whom you’d like an oak planted, please let me know and I’ll do so. (I’ll even say a little prayer in their honor.)
The person can be a recently departed friend or relative, an ancient ancestor, a newborn child/grandchild, or even a neighbor or acquaintance going through a hard time.
If you wonder why I am doing this, the answer is simple: It gives me hope. In a world I sometimes feel has gone mad, the modest act of planting trees helps keep me grounded.
P.S. You can email me at jackmuldrich@gmail.com or simply leave the name of the person in whose honor you’d like the sapling planted in the comment section.
