I've basically been wearing the same two textures on a loop for weeks now, as is the season. Linen and silk are the 2 fabrics I wear almost exclusively from May to September (with cotton and the occasional wool cardi thrown in). So I went digging through everything I love, everything I've been quietly hoarding in tabs, and pulled it all into one place. This is the rumpled-and-slippery edit.
Linen is basically engineered for misery weather. It’s woven from flax, and the fibers are hollow and a little stiff, which means the fabric holds itself off your skin instead of plastering to it… that’s why a linen shirt feels breezy even when you’re not moving. It drinks up moisture and lets it evaporate fast, so you stay dry-ish through the worst of it. you just have to make peace with the wrinkles
Silk plays a different game entirely. It’s a protein fiber and a genuine temperature regulator. Cool when it’s hot, warm when it’s not. It’s feather-light, and a silk slip under a linen dress is the closest thing I’ve found to wearing air. The catch is silk likes to be babied, which we’ll get to, but for a single sweltering day out? Unmatched.
If you’re in the market for some great linen and silk pieces, peruse at your leisure.
behind the paywall:
