Okay, we need to talk about the wedding guest dress, because I have been looking and it is bleak out there. Somehow every option is the same dress: $400 of polyester cut like it was draped on a mannequin in the dark, in the exact shade of dusty mauve four other guests will also be wearing, so you all kind of blur together in the group photo. It doesn't breathe, so you'll sweat through the vows, clings with static, so you'll be forced to spend cocktail hour discreetly peeling it off your thighs. The dresses I (and you) actually covet… real silk, real cotton, good linen, mostly don't exist new at a price I'm willing to pay. But secondhand, they're everywhere. Often half the cost of the shower-curtain version, likely worn exactly once, just waiting for round two.
