We’re two months into the Fire Horse Year…how are you holding up?
Back in late February, I co-hosted a Chinese New Year High Tea where I shared something I’d been sitting with before 2026 even arrived. A perspective that felt quietly different from what I was seeing and reading in Western media.
The Western framing has been largely about forward momentum. Taking bold actions. Galloping ahead with the energy of fire and the horse.
And I can understand why. The image of a fire horse creates a vivid picture of movement and power. Especially coming out of the Wood Snake year in 2025, which for many people was a season of slowing down, shedding, and integrating.
Personally, I was in alignment with the Wood Snake energy. 2025 was a rest year for me. It gave me the space to go deeper into my spiritual journey and integrate the insights and wisdom I gathered over the years.
With that, I leaned more into what Taiwanese spiritual practitioners were sharing and I ended 2025 with a renewed focus on three core themes to gently settle into the Fire Horse Year.
Yes, the Fire Horse energy is about forward momentum and taking action BUT only after you:
Align with yourself internally
Set the boundaries you’ve been delaying
Ground yourself so others can’t affect you
They might all sound like things you'd hear at any wellness event or in mainstream media. But when you layer on the deeper meaning and nuances specific to the Fire Horse Year, what seems "simple and redundant" actually holds more weight than what you see on the surface.
Theme One
Alignment isn’t a new concept. But the Fire Horse Year gives it a specific urgency. If you move fast without alignment, you’re going to faceplant.
This is the time to sit with yourself and ask what you actually want and value. Not what your family, your partner, your friends, or society’s idea of success tells you to want. There’s a difference between performing desire and knowing it. The Fire Horse Year amplifies both directions. If you’re aligned, it propels you. If you’re not, it accelerates the collision.
Internal alignment, in this framing, isn’t a feeling you achieve once. It’s a constant returning to your core values when you’re faced with situations that will test them. You’re looking for a quiet inner knowing—yes, this is what I want to do and this is what I’m here for—that you orient back to when the noise gets loud.
When you’re living from that aligned place, your external world begins to reflect it. The people, opportunities, and energy that match you start showing up with less friction.
Theme Two
The fire energy is direct, proactive, and unwilling to suppress itself. So if you’ve spent years people-pleasing, keeping the peace, or softening your edges to make others comfortable—that’s going to become harder this year.
Not because you’re becoming difficult but because the quiet resentment within you that comes from ignoring your own limits will grow louder and louder. To the point where you can no longer ignore it.
The Fire Horse Year will present tests: people, situations, or moments that ask you what you’re willing to stand for and what you’re no longer willing to accept. The cost of postponing those conversations and setting boundaries will be higher now than it’s ever been.
Boundary setting isn’t about building walls and being completely unapproachable. It starts with knowing what matters to you and letting that knowing guide how you actually want to spend your energy, your time, and your presence.
Then communicating those boundaries with confidence and coming to terms with the fact that it might ruffle some feathers. That's part of the process. What's meant to be in your life will stay; what's meant to leave will slowly fade to make room for the new.
Theme Three
Because the fire element is so activated this year, emotions are running hotter. People are more reactive, more anxious, quicker to trigger and be triggered. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the fire element is also associated with the heart so if you or someone you know has any heart-related concerns, this is a year to be especially attentive and stay on top of it before things escalate.
This is why having a daily grounding ritual matters so much right now and it’s not a passive practice that’s only beneficial for you. It’s protective for you and for the people around you. When you’re rooted, you’re less likely to ripple out, and other people’s turbulence will have less of an impact on you. You’ll be able to stabilize your heart and stay calm no matter what comes your way.
And when you create from that centered place—whether in your personal or professional life—what you make will carry more weight and staying power.
At the CNY High Tea, we closed with a grounding visualization that my spiritual practitioner originally taught me. It’s a practice you can do indoors, without needing access to nature. Perfect for winter days or whenever you’re not near nature. I’ll be sharing a guided video over on my Instagram soon, so follow me there to catch it on your feed!
Yesterday was the Aries New Moon. One of the significant portals of 2026 for releasing old patterns, old identities, and old stories about who you think you have to be.
If the last few months haven’t felt like what you expected, that’s okay. There’s still time to use today’s lingering new moon energy to step into your next chapter. To settle into your new skin, identity, and life season.
I shared these prompts at the CNY High Tea and as I reminded the attendees: these are just starting points. Let them open you rather than contain you. Follow whatever thread wants to be pulled. They’re also great reflective questions for this new moon period and for getting clear with yourself.
One note before you begin: you’ll notice a few prompts that touch on feelings and the body. That’s intentional. The somatic work helps you get in tune with what your body is actually communicating, not just what your mind is analyzing.
Inner alignment
If no one needed your saving or help, how would you live your life?
What are your top 5–10 core values that feel internally aligned, not aspirational but already true?
How would you feel when your internal and external worlds are fully aligned?
Boundary setting
What truly matters to you and what will you no longer tolerate?
What specific boundaries do you need to set moving forward (physical, emotional, spiritual, relational)?
How would you feel when you uphold your boundaries, even when it’s uncomfortable?
Grounding rituals
What’s a simple daily grounding ritual you can actually commit to?
What will you do to stay centered when your boundaries are tested?
What will you lean on as support when life speeds up?
And if you feel called to share, drop your answer in the comments:
What’s one action you’re taking tomorrow?
Momentum without alignment is just speed.
Speed without roots is how people burn out and faceplant in the years that were supposed to be breakthrough years.
So before you gallop forward, come home to yourself.
Know what you want. Draw your lines. Find your ground.
Then let the Fire Horse carry you somewhere worth going. 🐎🐎🐎
