Welcome to Pop Pulse, your one-stop check-in on everything happening in the music industry without having to scroll endlessly or risk missing the big stories. And today’s a big one: the 50th edition of the newsletter, so thank you for reading!

In case you’re new here, every Tuesday, I run through the top headlines shaping the week so far, the most exciting upcoming releases, and a spotlight on my own content, from short-form posts to the latest episode of SoundTracked. Think of Pop Pulse as your weekly check-in with a music-obsessed friend who’s already done the homework for you.

If you are not already a paid subscriber, here is what you are missing: my full library of uncut, full-length reactions to music videos, albums, and new singles, this weekly newsletter, archive access to my written album reviews, early access to artist interviews, and more. All of it for $5 a month. I do this completely independently, and every paid sub makes it possible to keep going. If you have been thinking about it, now is a great time to join!

Dolly Parton has sadly passed away at 80. Her nephew Bryan Seaver announced the news in a video posted to Dolly’s official social media accounts on behalf of the Parton and Owens family.

It’s hard to even put her legacy into words. She was a musical legend, one of the defining country crossover artists of all time, a brilliant songwriter, a philanthropist, and an incredible human being always beaming with joy. This is absolutely devastating news and a real loss for music.

See the family’s full announcement below.
