Back in May, I wrote in this crossword about being excited to have my first summer without surgery, after two back to back summers with operations. In a truly hilarious turn of events, I ended up getting surgery last week. This surgery was only wisdom tooth extraction—so mild as to barely qualify as a surgery, as far as I’m concerned. Yet, I’m left with the feeling that I manifested this somehow, or I have to figure out some way to break the spell in 2025.
At least I’ve been contending only with soft food and salt rinses this go around, instead of scar maintenance and bandages. And, god bless, I made it out to Brighton Beach for perogies on the sand before any of this started to unfold.
