Few acts carry such a mysterious legendary status as Transglobal Underground. You want genres? How about DigiSquareDance? Transglobal Underground, noted over 35 years for their lack of respect for all boundaries, genres and musical limitations return with a new release ‘Doin’ the Moonshine.’ Initially inspired by attending one or two ceilidhs (pronounced kay-lees) at the wrong time of night, the inspiration got mixed up with an American square dance, which inspired a little bit of bhangra, plus a melody from…..well, you get the picture. Or, equally, you don’t, in which case you need to listen to it right away and join everyone who’s reacted with ‘That’s great! But what is it?’ TGU never care what it is. If they like it, they do it. With Shut Up and Dance to one side, and KLF on the other, Transglobal Underground came into being during the electronic dance scene of the early 1990s. Pioneers in the mixing of club culture with world music, their first single ‘Temple Head’ went Top 30 and their debut album, ‘Dream of 100 Nations’ top 20.
Transglobal Underground became best known for their live shows which made them festival favourites and have seen them touring worldwide ever since. Along the way they picked up a BBC World Music award for their seventh album ‘Moonshout.”
The current lineup is based around original members Hamid Mantu and Tim Whelan
and features the UKs best known sitarist Sheema Mukherjee (also of Cornershop, Imagined Village)
TUUP, a major figure on the UK storytelling scene
and Rav Neiyyar (Bollywood Band).
