Khiri Lee · INVOKED

The Full Moon can come with a surge of energy. The peak fullness has a pressure for completion, even if your personal rhythm is on a different timing. The Full Moon this Monday in the sign of Aries is also a super moon making the sense of urgency even more potent. Despite fiery Aries leading the charge, and the lunar sign encouraging haste, it may be better to take a step back and consider what is best for you and let this lunation simply charge your batteries for the next round of growth.

I personally have nothing significant to complete at this time, so I feel the complexity of this moment. It is a harvest moon, and it is harvest season, on the tail end of Mabon, and yet I feel myself more at a time of beginnings and fresh starts. It is all a spiral anyways, with endings bleeding into beginnings, and each moment a little parcel of both. Despite having nothing concrete to check off at the height of the Full Moon on Monday I have much to celebrate in my life and much to thankful for.

Thankful for the changing seasons and having the time to slow down and appreciate the ephemeral beauty.

I will spend this Moon cloaked in gratitude surrounding myself, my family, my home, my community in a mandala of protective thanks. I will fill my cup with these appreciations to carry me through the darkness into the light of spring.

It has officially been one year since I started writing these Full Moon posts. I debated if I should make a new playlist but in the end decided the one I created in the past was still timely and powerful. I hope you enjoy the curation. Even though the playlist is the same, the oracle spread is brand new for Monday’s unique astrological weather.

You can find the original Patreon posts below if you are curious about the previous years of inspiration. I want to share them here as an offering, along with the Oracle Spread I am using under the light of this Moon to guide my own learnings and understandings.

Today’s Full Moon arrives in the sign of Aries, the Ram. Known for initiating movement & taking risks, Aries energy amplifies the action catalyzed by Pluto, Mars, and Chiron.

URGE Like the call of the sea, what is pulling at your inner timing?
REST Like the first autumn snow, where are you finding peace in the change?
RITE Like the mountain pass, how are you crossing the threshold?

Use these prompts with your favorite oracle or tarot deck, simply journal to the prompts, or let them move through your body as you listen to the music above. This offering is for you to take or leave as you please.

Rose Quartz, Tiger’s Eye, and Rainbow Moonstone from my soon to be released oracle deck.

I used my draft deck for the Crystal Invocations Tarot I am excited to launch into the world next month. I thought I would do a kickstarter, but am considering other options. I would love feedback from the reading about the art and writing, or share your excitement for a fresh take on a crystal-themed oracle deck.

The moon and the sea are intrinsically linked, pushing and pulling each other in a hypnotic, gravitational dance. When the sea sings to us with her siren call, we are in some ways also hearing a duet with the moon. Almost all the water on the Earth eventually flows back to the sea, and so it would follow that the water in our own bodies feels this same urge for return. This question seeks to feel into the timing of our own bodies, the waters, and the Full Moon.

Filter through the memories of my childhood so that the essence moments of joy and play are accessible to me as I step forward with greater self-knowing and self-healing.

I keep getting the message to give over my timing to my inner child. It has come up in casual conversation, in journaling, in silly online tests, and now again with the guidance of Rose Quartz. I will listen. If I reframe the sense of urgency and completion of this Full Moon from the perspective of my inner child I have a sense that I need to pick the apples from the tree in the grove before they rot (I took a pause in writing this newsletter to venture out and check my tree. I tried out a new apple picking tool and picked the biggest, juiciest, rose red apple I’ve ever picked from the beloved tree. It was a worthy pause to eat a sun warmed apple in the overgrown grass with my kiddo.) I have a sense that I need to make time to jump in the leaves. I need to bring a playful purpose to my sharing of art and work.

I also notice a sense of urgency around how scary the world feels right now with polarizing politics, climate disaster, and ongoing war displacing thousands. As a child I frequently mobilized small actions around causes I felt strongly about. I spoke out about endangered animals and closely followed the revitalization of Bald Eagles along the Mississippi River. I was involved in school politics as early as elementary school. I joined the student conflict resolution council and coached my peers through difficult situations in the fourth grade. I am curious now how to tap back into that activist energy that was so inherent in my being, and strip away the fatigue, indecision, and cynicism I am not immune from today.

If this spoke to you, give it a like or send to a friend. These tiny gestures help me know what’s resonating and fuels more magic to come.

October is often when the first snow falls in Colorado. The earliest I can remember it falling, bringing a blanket of quiet pause to the world was October 8th, just one day later than our Full Moon will be this season. It marks a sudden transition, the trees becoming bare, and the nights crisp. And there is also a peace that comes with the change in the season. This question taps into the medicine of that moment and how to find it in our own lives.

Reading the invocation that accompanies the Tiger’s Eye message of courage my thoughts ping-ponged in a dozen different directions. This card follows on the advice of the previous. Gaze into the depths to unlock the powers of playful protection. Play can very often be dismissed as frivolous, lacking in severity, or an outright distraction. But I know through embodied gnosis that play unlocks the binds of conflict and allows good will to flow.

Many moons ago I read a book with an excerpt about the way the Dalai Lama uses physical humor to break the ice and build rapport with people. He would tug an ear or make a silly face or engage with someone in a ways that would bring them off guard, creating a space for connection between them. I can’t recall the book now, and if you are familiar with the book please jog my memory in the comments.

This passage always stuck with me because it elegantly showed the power of play as an offensive stance, and through taking the initiative through play it created safer and braver spaces to engage in. This playful and brave container is one pathway towards peace, just as I believe breaking bread together, singing together, or making art together in community is part of the peaceful futures I dream of. When it snows I will play, and invite others to play with me, and see what charms and protections we can conjure together in that space.

Rite’s of Passage can be easily overlooked in our culture, simplified to a party or an instagram post. But these rites are essential part of crossing thresholds and clueing the spirit into the decisions and unavoidable passages we go through in life like puberty, menopause, and death. I am the Priestess of my local pagan community and lately I’ve been wondering how to deepen into my role when it comes to supporting others through all the thresholds. I learned about the Midwifing the Veils training through the Priestess College at the Goddess Temple in Ashland recently. Their offer is to “Learn how to facilitate rites of passages for life’s major thresholds: Childbirth, First Blood, Union, Marriage, Parenting, Divorce, Sovereignty, Death & Rebirth.“ I had the privilege and the joy of attending Samhain and Beltane ritual there in 2017 and 2018, so I’ve wondered if this might be a fit for that deepening. While travel may not be fully available to me, this question may be a first step to crossing over.

Earthly amplifier of Moon Mysteries, share your eye-opening, life-discerning, wisdom-awakening magick with me.

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

(from The Essential Rumi, translations by Coleman Barks with John Moyne, 1995.)

This is the quote that came to mind while meditating on the message from Rainbow Moonstone. For every culture, every person, there is a different and inspired way to mark the passages of birth, death, love, and separation. Each one is part of the kaleidoscope of rites that color our collective stories. Some are likely more affective than others, but each has a value. I am crossing the threshold inspired to create my own rites of passage, and to learn from my wise and well elders and ancestors about the rites that are the most supportive and joyful and growth-giving to weave into my own practices and offerings. This card may be inviting you to to chart your own course in the creation of a personal rite, to mark the passage of this Full Moon and this moment of becoming or unraveling.
