In last month’s creative log, I mentioned that things were changing around here. ‘Here’ meaning the internal process of creativity, and subsequently the art that flows outward from it.
This month, that change has already taken place. My allegiance to chonky frogs grows in power. I am being revived, healed from sources I cannot describe, simply by giving in to my innermost desire to just make frogs.
So, my dear frog fans, here’s what’s happening this month in the studio (which is technically just my kitchen table):
I haven’t made nearly as many as I would like, but given that I am only just beginning to allow myself free reign of these creative urges, I imagine the monthly frog output will increase significantly as we move forward.
Also, look at these food frog sculptures!!
Last year I prototyped a batch of ‘Your Own ChonkyFrog’ frogs because I needed to fill the void that was my pocket (and purse). I needed to make three dimensional versions of my frogs so I could carry them around with me and put them in funny places. I now have multiple tiny chonkyfrogs in each of my bags, as well as one that sits on my desk to put in my pocket if need be.
Anyway, I have an additional weird fixation on miniature food, so I experimented with making the frogs as food. Also! They do include butts, of course.
We are growing in frog fans!! Every month more grumpy dumplings are mailed all over the world to those of you who also share this ridiculously niched interest of chonky frogs doing things. It is so much fun.
The frog for July is “Lemonade Stand” and it is so deeply nostalgic to me. When I look at it I can hear the crickets and tall grass rustling in the summery breeze. One of the perks of these frogs is their ability to instantly regulate my nervous system (hopefully for you too??) Mail club members signed up by the 15th will get a hand-signed mini print of this lil guy :)
On the one hand, I am obsessed with making vlogs. I don’t know why, but I love it. On the other hand, making vlogs is one of the most creatively elusive things I’ve ever experienced. I simply don’t know how to execute the vision properly. And the algorithm - I cannot escape its wrath. But I persist.
Well, that’s it. Happy July!
