Was Star Wars Inspired By Ancient Greek Gay Sex? I Searched For Evidence.

So unfortunately I realized shortly after asking myself this question that no, Star Wars was not inspired by ancient Greek gay sex and actually I may be a little stupid for even thinking that. First of all, there are female Jedi. The whole argument kinda falls apart right then and there. I even surprised myself with how demented this line of thinking is. All that being said, I already opened up several tabs while researching this so I’m just gonna go ahead and get into it anyway because I’m unemployed and have nothing else to do.

If you’re unfamiliar, Star Wars is a space opera turned media franchise that just really needs to end already, please God stop them I’m begging you. Normally I believe myself to be above the idiotic masses and their franchises, but Revenge of the Sith went triple platinum in my household. To me it is an undeniably good (not great) film despite all the questions it raises and leaves unanswered about the industrialization on Mustafar. #KeepTheOuterRimWeird.

I’ve also always intuitively known that in a past life I was a twink in Ancient Greece, and things happened to me that deserve their own Substack article. One day I was rewatching the prequels and I was hit hard by déjà vu. I’d seen this before. The padawans and their masters…. Wait. But what could this mean? From my past life memory regression, I remember that ancient Greeks often operated within strictly defined roles named erastês (the lover) and erômenos (the beloved). The man filling the erastês role was the older mentor, responsible for kidnapping his younger beloved and teaching him the ways of the world before the erômenos ages out and carries on the cycle himself. This was assuredly not gay, despite the olive oiled up thigh fucking. And I believe them. I’m perfectly okay with practicing cultural relativism in the cases of both the Ancient Greeks and the Jedi. And I mean, that is exactly what the master/padawan relationship is, besides the intercrural.

I immediately googled “star wars erastes eremenos” to see if anyone else was talking about this. It felt urgent. Unfortunately no one has published any academic papers on the subject yet, but I did find some fanfiction from other like-minded people. I was able to jerk off to this, but these works were too eager to play fast and loose with the canon material for me to use them as sources. I carried on. It turns out ol’ George has spoken extensively on the real-world inspirations for Star Wars, but he failed to mention anything about the gay sex. He did make it clear that Greek mythology was a source of inspiration as well as the Roman empire, which everyone knows is just the straight version of whatever happened in Greece. I don’t really know. I’ve lowkey only looked into the gay sex. But I have to assume that if he’s as big of a history buff as he claims to be, he must have known…?

Unfortunately my quest for knowledge pretty much ends there. No one is talking about this. Disney wouldn’t allow it. The truth is just too big and carries too many implications. People don’t want to hear it. I did find an interview with the author of the Revenge of the Sith novelization, however, where he also cites Ancient Greek myths and tragedies as the inspiration for his work. When he asked George for permission to take creative liberties with the script, George told him to just make it good. Luckily, there exists a ROTS novelization bot account that posts quotes from the novel.
