She wanted to play football.
But her father had a different plan for her.
Only God knew how long it took to convince him to allow her to play football.
But, she eventually became a footballer, choosing the difficult part- goalkeeping.
She was nominated for the CAF Female Goalkeeper's Award, which she won earlier this week.
During the brief speech she gave after receiving the award, Chiamaka Nnadozie charged the African girl to believe in her dreams because "dreams do come true".
She should know better, right?
Of course!
Instead of following the unconventional ways some of our girls get money from their male counterparts, she chose to focus on her career.
She worked hard to be the number one female national goalkeeper.
She rose from the female national league to become a shining star.
Chiamaka has shown to her female folks, and humanity in general, that we thrive only when we are in our strength zone.
As we celebrate another exceptional Nigerian soccer ambassador, do not forget the essence of this celebration:
That your dream is possible only if you persevere.
No matter how long you have to persevere, follow through.
