STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Tony Rojas got his hands on the football as be broke up a Rocco Becht pass on Wednesday afternoon. Becht was throwing into a tight window across the middle of the field and for a moment as Rojas basked in the PBU by flapping his arms with the signature no fly zone celebration it was clear there was some juice on both sides of the ball.

Football season is back and so too was Rojas as he’s coming off a season-ending knee injury sustained last fall. Becht, who looked every bit the part of the leader and veteran quarterback that Matt Campbell’s team needs in his first year at Penn State, looked like he didn’t miss a beat either after recovering from surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder.

It was a hot and humid practice as Penn State stepped back on the field for the first time this season. The session spanned about 90 minutes and was open to the media. Here’s what impressed me during the first practice:
