You know you’ve made impact when over a year later, people are still talking about it.
Innovation is powerful. It transform lives.
Bruno’s post on LinkedIn shows exactly that.
In fact, I followed up with Bruno to see how he applied it and he told me the following:
His project won an award because of it! Isn’t that incredible?
And that session was one of the strongest highlights of SXSW 2025 for him!
You see, I teach innovation differently.
It’s based on my real-world experience, from over two decades being in innovation and creativity.
I teach based on what I know what works.
I also teach experientially and pragmatically, because I believe it’s the best way you learn.
In order for real transformation to happen in your life, you need to experience the difference and then be equipped with tools to implement it in your life.
The workshop Bruno attended at SXSW 2025 is, Think Like an Innovator: Master Associative Thinking.
It’s a unique approach to innovation that the world’s greatest innovators utilize.
Combining unrelated items from different places and putting them together.
Last year, a consultant who was working on strategy for the Department of Defense was attending the same workshop. She had a major breakthrough while applying what I was teaching and applied it to her work.
I love teaching this to others because I’ve been personally doing it for 20+ years.
Here’s your innovation tip on how you can start implementing this, too.
I call this exercise, Create the Dots.
Think about a problem that you have at home or at work that you want fresh thinking on. I call this your home base.
Then, brainstorm a list of places where you could get inspiration from on your problem. Here’s a list of categories I want you to brainstorm on: the arts, the sciences, people, nature, animals, other industries, technology, the government, education, experiences, places, other cultures, topics/subjects and anything else that comes to me.
Come up with as many as possible, it doesn’t have to connect.
After you’ve come up with a list, I want you to narrow it down to three to five things. Circle them.
Then, from that short list, pick ONE thing.
Your mission is to go and experience that thing. Read about it. Do it.
Once you’ve done that, use that inspiration for your home base.
