I Love Beets

Hello, world! This is serving as my own personal journal. As much as I enjoy the process of literally putting pen to paper, I want to include photos taken...

Recent Reads, Thoughts, Films, Art

Just a quick summary of things I've been reading, thinking about, or enjoying in art. Books: The Post Office Girl by Stefan Zweig - Post-war Austria. A presumably mid-twenties girl who works in a small village post office is plucked by her aunt and invited to join the aunt's trip to the Austrian alps, so she's momentarily afforded the high life. She's abruptly cast off by her benefactors and left…

New Life in Massachusetts

It's been almost a month since we moved to Quincy, MA. Our moving date was May 22nd, 2026, I am only now coming back to the blog. I needed time for my mind to settle, to feel as though all of my needs (e.g., home, food, clothing, routines) were being consistently met before I could engage in higher order thoughts and reflections. There are things I acutely miss from Bay Ridge. I won't make a…

Day 3 in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

After taking a couple of days off from the gym, I went to the Pestana gym to lift. The view from the gym was beautiful, with a line of sight over the beach and the cerulean ocean. I sunbathed on the rooftop by the pool after setting my out of office automatic reply in Outlook. I jumped in and out of the water to cool off in the heat of the mid-morning sun. I showered, got ready, and we went to the…

Sketches of Sardinia

At 20 years old, the summer before my senior year at Princeton, I stubbornly decided to forgo an internship or any paid work experience and instead chose to WWOOF in Italy for two months. The Mediterranean island of Sardinia beckoned me for some reason, so I spent a month with a couple of hosts. The first host was an older woman who had me stay in a quaint, rustic little cottage on her farm…

Day #2 in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

Almost more than I love beets, I LOVE hotel breakfast. This is one of my most American qualities. It's why I find it difficult to live in Italy for extended periods of time, even if that's my soul's paradise. Even if it's the depressing spread on offer at an Extended Stay in Gary, Indiana, you know where you can find me if I am a hotel guest. I firmly believe I am maximizing my use of whatever…

Day #1 in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

We just returned from our weeklong trip in Brazil and I wanted to write up a blog post about each day of our travels. Here's day one. After working a full day on Friday, April 17th, we caught an Uber and went to JFK. Our flight left NYC at 8:30 PM and we landed in Sao Paulo at 9:00 AM. Overnight. Economy. Seats would not stay reclined. Let's just say that we did not sleep very much, if at all.…

More Bay Ridge Farewells

After wrapping up work, I slipped on my Adidas and went for a walk to soak in the late afternoon sun. Goodbye, gentle old man with a cane who walks his dog every day. I've seen you outside rain and shine, always greeting me with a smile. I wish you and your pet the best. Goodbye, my beloved Narrows. I've relished in your beauty through wind and rain, through sun and sublime. I matured as a runner…

Morgan Library

Z and I went to the Morgan Library's Free Friday on April 10th, 2026. It's a 10 minute walk from our offices, so there was no reason for us to never check it out.

Brooklyn Long Run

With the end of February, I commenced a protracted farewell to NYC. This has involved indulging many of my whims, especially for places that I'd previously left on a list to visit "someday". That day has arrived. Contemporaneously, for reasons I have documented in my written journal, since the beginning of Lent I've been attending Mass every Sunday. I look forward to my time at Mass. I think it…
