Gem Prep Caldwell will be allowed to open roughly three miles northwest of the Vallivue School District's Ridgevue High.

Engineers say the quirky structures that make up the school need $24 million in repairs. Some residents would rather have a new, normal school building.

Students this past school year took the twice-a-year reading assessment on a new platform that requires kids to speak their responses into a microphone instead of picking from multiple-choice answers.

The test doesn't affect students' grades, but lawmakers, schools and parents use the scores as a measurement of Idaho's K-12 performance.

The event at Boise High School is slated for Aug. 25, one week before the district's trustee elections.

Public schools, by far the largest state endowment beneficiary, will receive nearly $81.9 million next year. This is a 13% increase, but still a small fraction of K-12 spending.
