The Idaho Vanguard is going full send on Journalism to guard against tyranny.

Dear Reader,

This publication is evolving, and boy am I excited about it.

When I took over the newsletter for Idaho50501 in the summer of 2025 it was mostly a mailing list sitting in the ether doing nothing. I grabbed the reins and started a newsletter to help connect the people who showed up at our rallies with the happenings of our state and country. Over the last year it has evolved further, with the adoption of the moniker “The Idaho Vanguard with Idaho50501” as well as developing into a full news outlet.

What began as a means to keep Idahoans informed about local, state and federal politics and news has continued to evolve. Taking on international foreign policy, breaking news about local elections and corruption. And even a podcast that offers political commentary and analysis as well as interviews with Idahoans creating a big impact on the state.

All of this has been a natural evolution of wanting to help Idahoans stay informed and engaged. What began as simply me helping out with the skills I have (a degree in English) has continued to grow and shape the very life I am leading and my own future. A life long admiration for journalists and the impact they have on society has given rise to a small time independent media outlet that I truly, deeply love producing, writing, and recording. (Usually from my living room.)

Everything you have come to know the Idaho Vanguard for will remain; impactful stories, deep analysis of policy and action, and holding powerful people accountable for their actions. But we will also be working on building our brand, and expanding our reporting. I will be working on cultivating this outlet into something that not only provides a voice and insight for the people of Idaho, but provides a platform for others to speak the truth and make sure the powerful hear it.

For you, Reader, nothing will really change. You will still get the inbox messages about our articles and podcasts. Events and news will still get sent out regularly for Idaho50501, and this publication will still serve as Idaho50501’s mailing list, because our futures are deeply entwined. The current level of funding that is received will remain for Idaho50501, and future funding will help provide for The Vanguard’s continued expansion. I will also be taking the Idaho Vanguard to broader horizons and finding ways to maximize our reach and growth; one day a means by which I can do this work full time.

While I am beyond excited about what the future holds, I am leaping into the unknown with a major career shift. Bear with me on the process of figuring that out and growing this platform. Idaho deserves an independent journalism and media outlet that tells the truth, the context, and holds powerful people to account; that is precisely what I will make sure we continue doing. Here’s to our future, and the republic for which it stands with Liberty and Justice for all.
