I've been using this home server setup since 2018 (albeit only for SSH until 2022 or so) and it has never happened *once* before that it's gone down so hard that it required manual intervention to bring back up just figures that it would happen to hit when I'm on the other side of the world!
oh dear....... power's back on but the server's still not responding I guess 8 hours was a little too long for that poor old battery will have to chat my kid to ask to push the button once he's up tomorrow
not necessarily complaining, I knew what I was getting into here fedi is pretty tolerant of servers temporarily disappearing, and it'll recover gracefully with time # homeServerLife
my home server for @ technomancy@hey.hagelb.org is down and I'm way on the other side of the world of course, I couldn't do anything even if I was home, because the power is out so first gotta wait for the crews to restore power then gotta wait for my cron job to update dynamic dns
here's what I would love: an SD card image I can flash and put in a pi that turns it into a demoscene jukebox where it just runs thru random "best of" playlists forever, maybe some minimal controls for skipping around here's my understanding of why that won't work: most demoscene works target x86 windows specifically so ARM linux is incompatible for multiple reasons here's a cheesy workaround I…
been a while since I mentioned this but I've moved a lot of my activity over to @ technomancy@hey.hagelb.org which is my account on my home-hosted gotosocial server (I'm not abandoning this account, but I'm moving more and more over to that one, partly because I'm excited about the direction of gotosocial and I don't feel great about the choices made by mastodon's leadership)
(I guess one big reason is that I was less than a year old the first time I went to Bandung but STILL, you're never too young to be told about anti-colonialism)
I've been to Bandung several times but how am I just finding out abound the 1955 anti-colonial Bandung Conference today? https:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandung_ Conference
scp entry but as you get further thru it you realize it's written by the grounds keepers at an scp site and the containment measures are just describing how to keep bamboo from spreading
*reading a post by someone who complains about being deluged by loud, annoying reply guys* *clicks thru to the original thread, can't see any reply guys* so um, yeah, it seems like silencing mastodon.social was the right move after all try it today, I dare you
I saw https:// ludic.mataroa.blog/blog/i-will -fucking-piledrive-you-if-you-mention-ai-again/ get boosted like three times across my timeline this morning so you've probably already read it (it's good) but I wanted to mention it specifically because it's the first time I've read a piece and felt compelled to describe it as "Mickensian"
Content warning: food, dutch people don't open, danish people don't open either getting cancelled for my persistent inability to tell the difference between the dutch and the danish
the one downside of setting my mobile's ringtone to 100gecs "ringtone" is that it makes me jump when the song comes on normally, but the upside is that I get to hear 100gecs more often so in the end it's a win https:// 100gecs.bandcamp.com/track/rin gtone
(but if I were, I would theorize that Bea Arthur only learned to sing from spending all that time in the cantina with cantinafreaks and learning the wonders of music from them despite her birth culture lacking it)
