What Does It Mean to Be in Right Relationship with Alignment?
Understanding my relationship with alignment has been a catalyst. It shifted my relationship with life, released me from self-doubt, from the endless why, from the lie that I wasn’t doing enough. I hope it offers you some medicine, a way to flow with life that feels relational, reciprocal, and a little less daunting.
The phrase “right relationship” is rooted in Indigenous worldviews — traditions that, across many nations and many languages, share a common understanding: that we do not exist as separate beings moving through the world, but as beings woven into it. In relationship with the land, with water, with the seasons, with one another. In relationship with the self, spirit, ancestors, divinity, and the liminal.
I have come to understand that being in right relationship with alignment is ultimately a form of trust. A language you create together, where there is understanding and reciprocity. Where the information you receive is not something to resist, but something to acknowledge. At its core, being in right relationship with alignment is the willingness to listen to what existence is telling you. Not just when it feels good. But especially when it doesn’t.
Most of us have spent our lives in wrong relationship with alignment or have no relationship with it at all. When something does not go our way, a door closes, a partnership ends, a friend stops reaching out, a job opportunity doesn’t happen, the path you poured yourself into keeps meeting resistance — we take it personally. What am I doing wrong? Why is this happening? Am I not worthy? Am I good enough? Searching for what needs fixing and something to blame, usually ourselves.
The endless self-interrogation, the adjusting, the overthinking, the thoughts that keep us awake at 3am — why is the universe conspiring against me?
We were raised in a culture that treats alignment like something we must control, force, optimize. We believe there is a recipe to it, perhaps a spell, manifesting what we desire at will. But when did we forget that life does not work this way? Yes, we can weave with magic and direct it where we want, however, there are things we simply cannot control. And what we think we need or want may not be what is actually aligned with what we truly need at this time. Sometimes we can’t see the bigger picture. Sometimes we dream too small.
But what if the closed door is information? Some things end because they were never yours to begin with. They ran their course. They are not meant for this season of your life. Some doors close because something more aligned is waiting for you to discover it, to meet it. What feels like loss in one direction is often redirection happening.
Back in 2023, when I lost a ton of friends, partnerships, work, and relationships, I nearly lost my mind. Am I the problem? Did I miss something? Am I disposable? Did everything I work for mean nothing? My mind was fried from the weight of all those whys. Full burnout, leaving me feeling lost and confused. Looking back now I see that the world was making room for the path I had not yet seen, waiting for me to lean into it, and take my first steps in a new direction. Life was moving mountains to align me—making room for the life that is brewing for me now.
The salve for me was turning inward, listen closely, and working on my relations. Now when a door closes I say, okay, thanks for the info. When someone ghosts me I say, okay, carry on. When an opportunity I really wanted doesn’t come through, I let out a long sigh and say, understood. Leaving space for alignment is important to the weaving of your life — less resistance in what’s becoming, more ease in the flow. I don’t take things personally anymore. I don’t stress about what I can’t control. I don’t yearn for what I don’t have. Instead I am anchored in my presence, in my current life as it is. This saves me time, energy, and ultimately allows alignment to work more abundantly. I have created a reciprocal relationship with alignment by respecting its information, and in turn, I am guided.
Life is constantly changing and so are we. To be in right relationship with alignment simply means allowing life to unfold as it needs to. Trying not to take things personally, and understanding that divine intervention is working in your favor, not against you. It asks us to trust that when something closes, something else is being protected — your energy, your time, your becoming.
And if you are in waiting — in the liminal space, the in-between, like so many of us are — resist the question how long is it going to take? Instead, leave room for spaciousness. For shifts to happen, for mountains to be moved, for lessons to come through, for revelations to be made. However long it may take, know that life is always in motion and therefore alignment is always finding its way to you.
I share this not as someone who has it all figured out, but as someone who stopped fighting the current. Who learned, slowly and sometimes painfully, that alignment was always in conversation with me. I just hadn’t learned how to fully trust.
I hope this brings some ease and medicine to the hearts.
Love, Juliet
A Few Questions to Sit With:
What does being in right relationship with alignment mean for you?
What door has recently closed that you are still grieving or resisting? What might it be trying to tell you?
Where in your life are you pushing hardest? Is that push coming from genuine calling — or from fear of what it means if it doesn’t work out?
What have you been taking personally that might actually be redirection?
If you trusted that alignment was always working in your favor, what would you stop forcing?
Is there something that is in alignment but taking its sweet ass time —but patience is the lesson right now?
