Iain Maloney · The Only Gaijin in the Village

A late post today because I’m in the middle of nowhere (Gifu) without WiFi and I left it to the last minute. It’s been a hectic time recently (one reason why I was so delighted to focus on the 10th anniversary of The Waves Burn Bright) with work and various projects. That’s why we’re in the middle of nowhere, so I can get some peace and do some major editing.

The big book project with Dave Abbruzzese is progressing nicely. We have agent interest, and a request to see “as much as you have already written,” a state of affairs I may have over emphasised when first making contact. I have many, many hours of interviews with Dave, and have turned the transcripts into 99,000 words of prose, but that prose is (mostly) unfit for the eyes of professionals. So here I am, in the wilds of Gifu, with 263 pages of printed manuscript, a red pen and a highlighter, and a few bottles of wine, to get those words looking at least presentable enough to be shared alongside an email of caveats.

On which note, back to work.
