Imagine if…

A bell is silent, completely passive, unless it is struck. Many couples see each other only when they fight. Without tension, the world would fall apart, no structure would hold together.

Anger is an unconscious judgement at something that violates our conscience. When our soul is not strong enough to form a rational, balanced judgement about an injustice, we get angry.

When anger is processed properly, it leads to love. Love is merging with another. In order to merge, we need a strong sense of self and selflessness, which is what anger gives us.

When we feel anger, we want to right a wrong. In that emotion, we often don’t think of consequences to ourselves. We might say it gives us courage, but it’s not courage. In anger, we forget about ourselves to some extent, we become selfless and want to act selflessly, even when it comes from a place of pure narcissism.

In anger, we want to right a wrong because our ego has been hurt. Our anger strengthens our ego, but we can still forget about the consequences to ourselves in taking such action. Anger makes us forget about ourselves, it makes us selfless, because our hurt ego becomes stronger. In anger, we become so self-centered, we forget that our own actions might hurt us. We become so selfish, we become selfless.

Anger gives us a strong sense of self along with simultaneous selflessness. Sounds like what’s necessary to merge with others in love.

Emotional Processing

Like all emotion, (guilt, shame, even confusion) our challenge is to feel anger deeply within us while not physically reacting at all. In meditation, know that emotion cannot hurt you. Feel it as strongly as you can, no matter how incredibly awful it feels, no matter how much you want to lash out, just be still and feel it. In so doing, you become its master. You reclaim your power from its false lordship over you.

If we let our emotion swallow us, we become all ego and completely selfless simultaneously. This incredible imbalance makes us go completely unconscious, acting irrationally and carelessly. The result is always damage to ourselves.

That’s why we have to maintain complete control over our emotions. Using our inner will, facing our emotions and fighting against their impulses causes soul growth. Doing this on our terms, facing it internally without any external reaction, we stay conscious and in control.

We need controlled awareness and a strong soul to reach higher worlds beyond the physical. Processing emotion is a key to becoming strong enough.

Processing anger is healthy because it keeps us from being totally compliant and complacent. It strengthens our sense of selflessness in wanting to take action that might hurt us, while also strengthening our sense of self and emphasizing our personal boundaries.

…that would be weird.
