A reader asked me the question I love most:
“Ana, if you woke up tomorrow with zero subscribers, zero products, and nobody knowing your name... what EXACTLY would you do?”
I’ve earned the right to answer this one honestly. My business did $7figures this year on 2 hours a day, but I’ve also been the person at zero: I left 15 years of corporate with no plan, and it took me five years and several failed ventures to earn my first own dollars. I know exactly which of those five years were wasted and why.
So here’s the plan I’d run today, knowing what I know. Ninety days, three phases, every move numbered.
Steal all of it.
Rule 1: One stream. One audience. One offer.
At zero, diversification is self-sabotage with better branding. You get rich by focusing. You stay rich by diversifying. Different steps.
Rule 2: At zero, YOU are the investment.
Not index funds, not crypto, not the $400 emergency fund optimized to death. The highest-return asset you own is a skill people pay for, aimed properly. Every hour and dollar goes there first.
Rule 3: Sell embarrassingly early.
My wasted years had one common thread: building before selling. Galleries, projects, platforms... all built first, validated never. The plan below sells in week 6, before anything feels ready. Especially before.
Move 1: I’d pick the ONE topic where my experience is deepest and people already pay. Not the passion project. Not the fresh start. The scar tissue. For me that’s marketing and monetization; for you it’s whatever colleagues DM you about. The market has been telling you your topic for years. Believe it.
Move 2: I’d start a newsletter on day one, ugly. No logo week, no branding month, no name agonizing. (I’ve watched people spend six weeks on a name for a newsletter with zero readers. The name is not the bottleneck. It never was.)
Move 3: I’d publish two pieces a week: one deep, one fast. The deep one proves judgment. The fast one (a breakdown, a teardown, a mistake confessed) earns shares. Every piece ends with a question, because replies are the entire strategy right now.
Move 4: I’d spend 30 minutes a day being useful in public. Thoughtful comments and notes where my people already gather. Not promoting. Answering. At zero, generosity is the only distribution you can afford, and conveniently, it’s also the best one.
Target by day 30: a few hundred subscribers who reply. Not thousands. A small list that talks beats a big list that scrolls.
Move 5: I’d read every reply like it’s market research, because it is. Somewhere in weeks 3 to 6, the same problem starts appearing in different words. That repetition is the business. I’d stop looking for ideas and start counting frequencies.
Move 6: I’d ask the list directly. One email: “What’s the thing you’re most stuck on with [topic]? Hit reply.” Then, and this is the move everyone skips, I’d get on 5 to 10 short calls with the people who answered. Not to sell. To listen to the exact WORDS they use. Those words become the offer’s name, promise, and sales copy. Copywriting is mostly eavesdropping done politely.
Move 7: I’d design ONE offer that solves that one problem in one clear timeframe. A live 2-day workshop or a 30-day sprint, priced $97 to $197. Not a course empire. Not a membership. One promise, one price, one date.
Move 8: I’d announce the offer to my tiny list with a founding price. Five emails across launch week. It will feel like too much. It’s not; most people miss most emails. The founding-members frame is honest at zero: they get the lowest price ever, I get the testimonials.
Move 9: I’d run it live, imperfectly, and over-deliver like my life depends on it. Because it does: at zero, the first 10 customers aren’t revenue, they’re the marketing department. Their results and words fund everything after.
Move 10: I’d immediately run it AGAIN. Same offer, improved, new price tier, next month. Not a new thing. The same thing, better and louder. This is the step where past-me always self-sabotaged out of boredom, and the step where the current business was actually built. Boring makes money. Variety makes work.
Day 90 realistic scorecard, run honestly: a talking list, one validated offer, the first $1-3K earned, and (the part no one prices) the permanent rewiring that happens when strangers pay you. From there, $10K months are not a miracle. They’re repetition with growing volume: same system, run again each month, louder, to a list that compounds.
That’s the plan. No ads, no funnels, no 12-hour days, no waiting until it feels ready.
It never feels ready. Sell anyway.
If you want to run this plan WITH me instead of alone (offer design, buyer identification, launch, in 30 days) that’s exactly what 10K Launch Lab does. Bring the scar tissue. I’ll bring the system, and 830+ wins say it works.
Below the line for paid subscribers: The Zero Playbook, expanded. The week-by-week execution calendar for all 10 moves (what to do each Monday morning), the 5 listening-call questions that extract an offer from any conversation, my exact founding-launch email sequence structure (all 5 emails, outlined beat by beat), and the three day-30 diagnostics that tell you whether to proceed, adjust the topic, or adjust the audience. If you’re at zero or restarting, this is the map I paid five years for.
