My second year solo farming: realistic updates, wins/losses, and plans for next year

When I am not reporting on the green energy grift, the Office of Renewable Energy Siting, or the bureaucratic takeover of New York State, I am outside on my farm today. I spend between four and eight hours outside, every single day, rain or shine, on my land. Nothing makes me happier. Nature is the best teacher, and though I am still reading as many books on the great outdoors as possible, nothing teaches you how to steward for land quite like being outside, observing the ebbs and flows of the environment around us.

For those that are new here, I completed a financial series between 2024 and 2025 that breaks down how much everything cost, including the 6.74 acres of land (purchased with a Farm Credit East loan) that I proudly call my own.

In this post, I am going to show you what my farm looks like today, what I’ve done since I started learning how to farm last year, and what I hope to add in 2027 after some more (painful, but necessary) lessons experienced this summer.

This is coming from a person who is doing this solo with no tractor or fancy farming equipment.
