"One Step This Week" Is the New Name for "Field Notes"

Now that we’ve settled on a weekly format to share fact-packed practical action guides for sustainability, One Step This Week from Sustainable Practice is the new name for this publication. As we close in on our summer goal of 100 subscribers, we hope this new name better reflects what we’re doing here and will allow us to keep growing our community for the benefit of all. If Substack’s export/import process goes well, you’ll receive next week’s issue under the new name.

I’ve partnered with my good friend Peggy Siegle to pursue my vision of helping households and organizations become superbly sustainable. We’re calling our partnership Sustainable Practice.

I’ll continue to write weekly action guides, start to give talks about sustainability topics, and offer sustainability advising for hire to help households and organizations make progress along seven pathways to sustainability. In the near future, in addition to weekly action guides, we'll be publishing comprehensive sustainable practice guides—such as a Sustainable Practice Guide to Composting—explaining how to implement sustainable practices well. Get our guides to improve imperfect practices and succeed with superb practices that make the world better for everyone.

Along with our weekly action guides, sustainability talks, advising for hire, and comprehensive practice guides, we are working on two long-term projects:

1. A Sustainable Practice Handbook for households and organizations. Our Handbook will cover practices along all seven pathways—everything a household or organization needs to know to become superbly sustainable.

2. An online Sustainable Practice Network. We’re building a website where you can

   1. quickly get personalized advice for your own specific situation so you can take the next step on your own sustainability journey, and

   2. easily share what you know based on your own experience so others can benefit from your trailblazing on pathways to sustainability.
