Kentucky jumps into five-star Trevor Keels' recruitment

It’s been well established that senior guard Trevor Keels of Paul VI (VA) was down to a trio of programs that includes Duke, Villanova, and Virginia. Given Kentucky’s outside shooting woes this season, it made complete sense when the Wildcats extended a scholarship offer to Keels on Friday.

A 6-5 smooth operator, Keels comes in at No. 20 overall in the class of 2021 in the current 247Sports composite. That may be on the low side though, as Keels is simply one of the most skilled prospects in the class and has a close to college-ready frame at 210 pounds.

Keels has an effective outside shot and has been well-schooled with high basketball IQ playing in one of the nation’s top high school programs. The 247Sports crystal ball showed Duke as Keels’ most-likely destination prior to Kentucky’s scholarship tender, so it remains to be seen what impact Kentucky’s overture will have.

The Tar Heels were busy over the weekend, putting out two scholarship offers to members of the junior class. Justin Taylor and Dereck Lively II were the recipients of the scholarship offers.

Lively II is the higher-rated of the two prospects, coming in at No. 39 in the 247Sports composite for the 2022 class. The 6-11 center from Westtown School (PA) makes sense as a UNC offer, given North Carolina’s need going forward at that position.

Like Lively II, Taylor is a top 100 prospect, ranked at No. 86 overall currently in the 247Sports composite. Taylor, who hails from St. Anne's-Belfield School (VA), is a 6-6 wing forward.

Greenhill School (TX) 6-2 prospect Noah Shelby named ten schools over the weekend that he’s considering. As a member of the 2022 class, it’s early in Shelby’s recruitment, but certainly a good thing for all programs named in Shelby’s list.

Shelby named Kansas, Baylor, Mississippi State, Stanford, Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Arizona, Auburn, and Virginia, and even made brief comments on his interest in each program, via his Twitter account.
