flemings just has unbelievable speed and short area burst despite being very upright. hes a walking paint touch in the half court, and combines that with elite rim freuquency and nice finishing. He has some same hand same foot finishes, and elevates way above the rim when he goes up (he can get so high sometimes he'll lose the ball) and he's got a decent frame to build off of. Statistically, he’s an elite finisher at the time of this writing. Later on, kingston’s process at the rim got worse, took off too far, sometimes not strong enough to handle contact. Needs to develop gathers and poise around the rim and not rush. Does need to move the ball in the air. Finishing is a work in progress, but with loads of potential. But what makes him so hard to guard is his pull up counters, he plays off two feet a lot, and often will drive only to stop and pop and convert at a decent rate. He's got some counters, like a between the legs or behind the back, a stepback, snatchback and flashes a fadeaway. You can tell when he drives, he's conciously hunting for space to pull up when defenses pack it in, looking for soft spots in the defense. He can use a jump stop, but also can just do a one two with his feet. His shooting has definently surprised me, in HS he shot a two handed shot with his off hand flaring inside, and wasn't a consistent shooter. That's changed to a certain degree, and he's had good effiency on low volume. I have questions about his pull up 3pt shooting and how often he shoots off the catch, but when he does shoot off the catch his statistical production is solid. I honestly feel like my shooting questions are never going away. His spin on the ball is unorthodox, and his form isn’t exactly textbook, but he’s making them. Honestly, his on ball shooting has taken a huge step in the right direction. The midrange shotmaking combined with the driving just makes it a nightmare to contain him. Right now, he’s scorching from the mid range. His handle can get away from him sometimes, he dosen't really try to bend his body, and his left hand finishing is a ways away from his right, but he creates advantages in his sleep. His driving process with his left is clearly not as good as his right - there was an instance in an earlier game where the right was wide open, and he still went left. Sometimes, flemings just plays too fast. He'll pick up his dribble way too early, try to bulldoze his way to the rim, ignoring gap help in the process. I also think he can fall in love too much with the mid range. He's got a low FT rate for a guard that goes downhill, and he's had that low rate since high school. His left hand passing flashes are AMAZING, but the accuracy isn't quite there yet, but the process is. But these are nitpicks. Flemings is a great passer. He frequently kicks the ball out, uses fast bounce passes to hit his bigs in the pick and roll, and makes the advanced reads like skip passes and manipulative look aways. He can sometimes miss the elite ones and go for a safer pass instead, which is not a negative thing. He likes an overhead pass, and his speed just opens up so many passing windows for him. Lobbing up to his bigs is easy for him. His passing isn't perfect, but it's really damn good. On defense, he's got extremely quick hands and turns defense into offense really fast. He can be late to rotations off the ball, but his steal rate and general want-to maximizes his athletic tools. He's got the feet to slide and stay in front of his man. Screen navigation is an issue. His bounce gives him some shot blocking stuff as a guard. at the POA his translation should be fine. i'll be watching his shooting stuff as the season goes on.
