"SURVEYING NOAH" @ HAMMER !!

The honor of doing Hood Century’s 1st real workshop and exhibition tour at the Noah Davis show @ the hammer in LA !!! Still shook.

We had 2 groups on Saturday (one at 11am one at 3pm). The kids was in the house, them cool ass parents who bring they kids to shit like this - visionaries. Some real special spirits. Our intention w Hood Century EDU is to have these sessions on some intergenerational shit. And it was soo cool to have yall pull up w yall kids, cousins, moms, moms homegirls!!

We free walked the exhibition and “surveyed” Noah’s works with these “Hood Studies” worksheets we made. (I tired to super explain every painting or a handful of things, but the free flow was dope.) Got to weave through the 25 folks who came and drop lil “messages” on everybody about certain aspects of Noah’s art, OR just hear from them bout what they saw and felt.

Looking at colors, patterns, motifs and city landmarks was always on my mind. We made these lil survey sheets to walk the exhibition with. You could tell the adults was expected to draw and you already know the kids really was hype. A couple of them started before we even went into the gallery. Hahaha.

After the tour of the exhibition, we had the workshop downstairs in this cute space that opens into the courtyard of hammer. Walking into the room w yall and seeing all the materials and Noah’s “Isis” up on the projector was really a dream moment.

We had these crossword puzzles and maps in there that we made. And our workshop activity was mixed media collage using both the Hood Century Archive and Noah’s artworks. Inspired by his paper series “Seventy Works”.

This actually the 1st time our archive has been printed out and renewed like that w yall. Was so dope to see what was made. Couple of folks in both groups won prints from us as prizes (our PRINTS) for they art!! Shouts Kaya and her daughter, Lil Marx and Issa!!

Like everywhere we go, we pulled up on our Du Bois surveying shit. These city survey cards were soo fun in D.C. we had to make another LA edition for this. Peep.
