I have a new story out now in 2000 AD! It’s a three-part sequel to the Future Shock I wrote in 2021, about an immortal time-traveling mouse named Stephen (naturally). I’m very proud of it, and elated that Lee Milmore did the artwork — he worked in watercolor, and it all looks magnificent. There are mouse fight scenes! Lee did another incredible post-apocalyptic full-pager!
If you aren’t familiar with where this story came from: in 2021, I entered the Thought Bubble/2000 AD Future Shock competition with a story I wrote called “Relict” and won (somehow!). Lee was the winner of the 2021 art competition, and illustrated the story. Future Shocks are 3-4 page sci-fi stories published in the venerable 2000 AD weekly prog, so they’re generally one-and-done, but I could not stop thinking about Stephen, the little mouse from that story. I started sketching out where and when he might have gone after Relict. That eventually turned into this three-part follow-up about our murine friend! He’s got companions now, but they’re not all they’re cracked up to be, and we’ll have to see how equal they are to the task of fighting off the mutant dragonflies that plague them. Lee and I did an interview if you want to learn more about it.
Check out some of the art so far, and pick up Progs 2441, 2442 (out now), and 2443 (out next week) to read the story:
