Remembering Detroit's Tiger Stadium on its 114th birthday

It was 114 years ago today that Tiger Stadium opened in Detroit, on April 20, 1912.

For me, almost every single childhood memory I have with my father was spent at the ballpark known to locals as simply “The Corner.” From learning how to keep score to chowing down on stale nachos to watching Cecil Fielder pulverize a ball over the left field roof in 1990, this was my happy place as a kid.

And I was far from alone. From that first day in 1912 until its final game in 1999, more than 100 million fans took in a game at The Corner of Michigan and Trumbull.

I won’t do a deep dive, but I couldn’t let the birthday of one of my most cherished childhood haunts pass without a trip down memory lane with some photos and some history.
