Sometimes you will walk into the world and find you care about the wet, fuzzy heads of the ducks as they startle into flight, and you can find your way back into caring about eating or sweeping the floor
Sometimes you will walk into the world and watch the cranes stalking a tractor, springing into the sky like string puppets and wonder if it is rice or insects brought up from the soil that they want, and you will find your way back to wondering what taking a crafting class might be like
Sometimes you will walk into the world and watch the crows caw at each other where they sit on the same lamppost and you will notice that they are bigger than you remember and you will find your way back to noticing how your mind can think something that isn’t true
Sometimes you will walk into the world and see several surrusations of starlings sprawling across the sky like the retinues of danjiri and ponder if they ever crash into each other and you will find your way back to finding things funny
Sometimes you will walk into the world and you will see a hawk, your sacred guide, barely half a metre above your head, its speckled belly within touching distance, and you will feel nothing at all
But sometimes you will walk into the world, caught between paradise and the highway, the only drinkable water your own tears. And the hawk will circle once more, leading you back to yourself
