October 2025 - Did We Finish Our Script???

So, in the last newsletter, I kind of already gave away that we weren’t going to have a script that was 100% ready for the stage. The more we develop this show, the more we go back to change earlier elements, and sadly that sometimes means cutting songs that don’t quite fit anymore. To better serve the story, we’ve had to cut a few old songs, and are still working on their replacements.

But still! We’ve been working our asses off all month to get to this point. So this is still a victory! We have more of a show than ever!

One other very cool development that happened this October: Hijinx & Sue had its Green Room 42 debut in NYC!!

Last month, Showpeople Theatre Collective hosted their First Drafts Cabaret event, where they featured Sue’s Act II solo, Someone to Someone. This song is Sue’s major emotional turning point in the show. As she reflects on who she envisioned herself being, she realizes that there’s more important things to focus on than herself.

We’re getting closer! Our first official staged reading of Hijinx & Sue is currently being planned for April 2026 in the South Puget Sound area! More details on that event coming soon. Until then, we’ll be gathering feedback from fellow writers, drafting our replacement songs, and polishing the script to make it all nice and shiny for you. :)

If spring’s too far away, you can join us for a night of new musical theatre on December 1st, where we’ll be showcasing a scene and song from Hijinx & Sue alongside other Seattle-area musical theatre writers!

In the meantime, we’ll be taking NO breaks as we continue to develop this show. Our (very) lofty goal is to have the additional songs written by the end of 2025, but realistically, we’re likely to reach that milestone closer to early 2026. We WILL have songs ready in time for our staged reading, but on the off-chance that we don’t, just know that SONDHEIM sometimes hosted readings with only one written act and a second act that was purely just vibes and explanations of what he wanted to happen, and you wouldn’t bully SONDHEIM, would you? Exactly.
