A Big Night of ECC Basketball Championships at the Sun!

The Eastern Connecticut Conference recently help it’s Boys’ & Girl’s Conference Championships at Mohegan Sun Arena. What made this year different is that they held all four games on the same day and they had an exciting new sponsor!
On Wednesday, 2/26, a combined crowd of over 4,500 packed into Mohegan Sun Arena to watch the four great match ups.
It was a packed evening with the following games scheduled every 2 hours.
2:00PM-Girls’ Basketball Division II Championship: #1 Windham vs #2 Stonington. Windham edged Stonington 51-42. Here’s the full bracket:
4:00PM-Boys’ Basketball Division II Championship: #1 Griswold vs #6 Montville. Griswold won convincingly over Montville 79-54. Here’s the full bracket:
6:00PM-Boys’ Basketball Division I Championship: #1 New London vs #2 St. Bernard. St. Bernard came back to win a thriller over New London 55-52. Here’s the full bracket:
8:00PM-Girls’ Basketball Division I Championship: #1 Bacon Academy vs #2 NFA. Bacon Academy outdueled NFA 37-27. Here’s the full bracket:
On top of 4 great high school basketball games, The Connecticut Sun and NFP Sports hosted the first annual VIP Suite during the games. Administrators for all 19 ECC Schools, all ECC sponsors and special guests were invited to enjoy the games from the Earth Suite. All guests received special gift bags and networked over the course of the evening. The highlights of the gift bags were promo items from The Connecticut Sun, 2 hour gaming cards from Game On, Notebooks from Metro Team Sports, special coupons from Domino’s and gourmet popcorn from NFP Sports.
NFP Sports continues to facilitate meaningful connections between the ECC and it’s sponsors. It helps that the conference runs such a great event that allows for great exposure for companies who support them.
Connecticut Represented at the Youth Flag Football World Championships

To cap off a journey that started over a year ago, I had the opportunity to bring the CT Elite 12U Flag Football Team to compete in the 2025 Youth Flag Football World Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The tournament is hosted by SHS (Super Hero Sports), who runs flag football tournaments all over the country throughout the year. The tournament featured approximately 800 teams from 26 US States, Canada, China, Mexico and Panama. Connecticut had over 20 teams from 5 different organizations representing Connecticut. The CT Flag Football organization had 4 teams in the tournament.
The 12U Team had players from 7 different towns. They went 2-2 in the first day of the tournament with wins against teams from New Jersey and Florida and loss against teams from Michigan and Mexico.
They came back on day two and went on a run, winning games against teams from Rhode Island and Mexico, making it to the semifinals in bracket #2. Unfortunately, they fell short against a very tough team from Louisiana. By all accounts, the team exceeded expectations as we brought only 8 players (3 from the original roster) to compete in Orlando.
The experience was nothing short of amazing. I witnessed the immensity of the sport of flag football first hand and I look forward to continuing to be a part of it moving forward.
Football Teams launch their off-season fundraisers

The Southington High School Football Team just wrapped up their annual David’s Cookie Dough fundraiser. They run the campaign every year, which is crucial to the team’s ongoing push to stay active in the off-season. No one has sold more cookie dough over the years than the Southington Blue Knights!
The Killingly High School Football Team recently launched an off-season fundraiser in their quest to order state championship rings. The team won the 2024 CIAC Class SS State Championship back in the fall and knew exactly who to call when they needed to raise money. They are running our brand new Gourmet Popcorn, Home Delivery Fundraiser to get the job done.
