A tour of Jewish history in Harbord Village [run by Rebecca Arshawsky]
Let’s dive in…
This weekend we begin a five-tour run (August 8 (x2), 9 (x2), 16) focused on a single intersection: Dundas & McCaul. A city block is a true miracle of coordination, and we will see it all: Streetcar wires, surveillance cameras, traffic lights, public art, utility covers, water mains, internet cables, and much more.

I am teaming up with Deaf Spectrum to offer a tour with ASL interpreters and live captioning. On August 16th at 10am We will walk the path of two hidden rivers, visit a neighbourhood that tried to secede from Canada, and learn why Casa Loma is definitively not a castle.
On Friday August 22nd, I am trying something new: running a mystery tour of a brand-new route. We will begin at Union Station, but that is all the information you will receive before it begins. We might walk somewhere, or take the subway, or board a chartered bus. It's anyone's guess.

Rebekah Arshawsky has been leading incredible tours of Harbord Village’s Jewish history. I’ve learned a great deal from her walks, and you will too. Her tour shows you how waves of immigration move through a neighbourhood, and the legacies they leave behind.
For thousands of years, a river called Garrison Creek defined Toronto’s landscape, its Indigenous trading routes, its immigration patterns, its colonial army bases. Then it was diverted into a sewer underground.
On this tour, we will revive the spirit of Garrison Creek.
Our walk will follow the course of Garrison Creek, telling the stories of the many neighbourhoods shaped by its waters. Dress up in blue or bring other kinds of decorations or costuming — embody the spirit of Garrison Creek in whatever way feels right to you.

This is a gathering of soon-to-be-friends—an opportunity to meet the curious and enthusiastic people who make these tours so special. We now have the data to confirm that Hidden Rivers is an evidence-based way to form lasting friendships & relationships: this summer alone, Hidden Rivers played a part in two (!!) weddings!!
This event will have everything: live music, a food truck, collaborative art, and of course, the return of the rainbow parachute. I am also excited to share that we will be debuting Hidden Rivers merch!
