A Year of Writing
I remember it as if it were yesterday when I was still trying to find a good WordPress theme. I decided that I would finally stick to writing rather than experimenting. One random day while lurking on HackerNews, I came across Blot.im. For some reason, I loved the pitch — it felt like Postach.io/Ghost on steroids.
One of the promises I made to myself last year was that I would write one blog post a month without fail. Yesterday, while cleaning my Dropbox folder, I peeked into my Blot folder. After glancing through drafts and published posts, I was genuinely happy with myself. With 18 posts and counting in less than a year, I haven’t had the urge to switch platforms, move domains, or start over.
At the beginning, the blog felt empty. So I started writing — anything and everything. The first few posts were just me putting thoughts out there. After that, I stuck to the monthly goal of one post. Now, with a decent collection behind me, monthly traffic is picking up. It feels like it’s time to retire the “one post a month” rule and let the writing muscle take over.
Learnings
Write like no one cares, then edit mercilessly:
I’ve written long drafts that ended up as short reads. Every time I wondered, should I hit publish? Yes — always.
Write like no one is looking:
I once thought of adding a tagline to this blog. Then I realized I wanted to write whatever I felt like — this space is mine.
Writing muscle helps you think:
Writing has profoundly shaped how I think. It forces me to structure my thoughts. I even find myself “meta-editing” before I speak — something that definitely didn’t happen on its own.
