A few good leftist podcasts and a ramp recipe

Leah Bannon · Hey Leah

Everyone recently had an interview with Mayor Mamdani for the first 100 days. I enjoyed this Hell Gate podcast (as I often do), in which they managed to stretch out their 8-minute interview into a full episode. They explained their interview strategy and added helpful political context. It was fun.

Speaking of interview strategy, can I just say? My biggest interviewer pet peeve is when people say, “Talk about…” Ask a question!

Oh to be a picnic table by the river

The Vergecast’s The ‘AI is inevitable’ trap episode was an insightful reflection on what it means for tech and its CEOs to be about as popular as Healthcare Insurance CEOs and how they got there. They also had some quality antitrust and anti-Brendan Carr content.

My favorite Diabolical Lies podcast episodes are the ones that are so far left, they’re controversial amongst the listeners: Who’s afraid of Hasan Piker? They explained why the centrists are coming for Hasan, who stands to benefit, and unique amongst this coverage: they shared audio clips to juxtapose paid Dem podcasts with Hasan. If you don’t really get why he’s so popular and would prefer two smart women explain it to you, check this out. I can’t believe this is still happening, but I’ll gladly take the content and exposure for the left.

The toasted pine nuts mixed in while hot gives this quick recipe incredible flavor.

Sorry, I don’t do measurements. I just started eye balling about how much of each ingredient I’d like to eat and it works pretty well.

Thinly slice 2-3 zucchini and/or yellow summer squashes. Sauté them in oil, salt, and pepper for a couple minutes, stirring regularly to cook evenly. (Honestly, you could double that.)

Squeeze in half a lemon.

Dice a bunch of ramps and separate the leaves from the onion-y stalks. Add the stalks to the zucchini and sauté another couple minutes.

Remove from heat once the zucchini is soft and becoming translucent and dump in a bowl for serving. Mix in the diced ramp leaves right away. Drain extra liquid.

Boil half a box of pasta and reserve a cup of pasta water before draining.

While the pasta is boiling, crumble feta into the zucchini.

Toast some pine nuts. Dump them straight into the zucchini bowl right as they start to brown — almost burnt.

Add the pasta and some pasta water, mix vigorously, and it’ll just suddenly come together after a bit. If not, keep stirring and adding pasta water until you like the consistency.

Serve with pecorino or parmesan.

Let me know what you like and what you’re looking for!
