The Nodal Shift — A New 18-Month Cycle Begins

Every 18 months, the lunar nodes change signs and with them, our collective and individual trajectory shifts.

The Lunar Nodes are mathematical points, the places where the Moon’s path crosses the path of the Sun. And yet when they change signs, the entire backdrop of our collective story changes with them.

For the past 18 months, the nodes have been moving through Pisces and Virgo. Dissolving and refining. Softening what had become rigid, ordering what had become foggy.

The clearest thread I have watched myself and the people around me walk in this season has been that of faith. Over these 18 months, many people have returned to faith, or landed in a new faith walk entirely. It has moved through my practice, my community and the collective all at once, and once you see it, you see it everywhere.

The thing with nodal transits is that the lessons and the ways we are being called to stretch aren’t always obvious while we are in them. Sometimes they are incredibly hard to make sense of. But they tend to become more obvious as you’re coming out of them.

This week, one chapter closed as another one opened...

From 26/27 July 2026 until 26 March 2028, the nodes will make their way through Aquarius and Leo. The North Node, our point of increase and future direction, enters Aquarius. The South Node, our point of release and past mastery, enters Leo. And because eclipses always follow the nodes, we will start to see more eclipses land on this axis.

Whatever areas of your life these two signs occupy are where you are being called over the next year and a half to grow, stretch, evolve and embrace endings and beginnings.

In astrology, the lunar nodes are some of the most important and mysterious points in the chart.

They are mathematical points rather than physical bodies, marking where the Moon’s orbit intersects the ecliptic, the path of the Sun around the Earth. Nothing you could find through a telescope. And yet the nodes influence our purpose, our direction and our evolution, individually and collectively.

There are two of them, always directly opposite each other, forming a polar axis between past and future. Between our comfort zone and evolution.

The North Node pulls us forward into unknown territory, guiding us toward growth and expansion. The qualities we are learning to embody.

The South Node represents where we have been. Familiar patterns, comfort, our default behaviours. The qualities we are being asked to integrate and move beyond.

It works like walking a path. The South Node is the starting point, a place of comfort, security and habit. The North Node is the goal, the lessons we are here to learn and integrate.

The nodes create changes, beginnings and endings. They highlight where we need to grow, personally and collectively. In your birth chart, they describe the trajectory of your life. In transit, they describe 18-month cycles of learning. When they change signs, we all get a new curriculum.

Where the nodes are is where we get eclipsed. The nodes describe qualities we need to bring back into balance, and the eclipses every 6-months accelerate that journey.

Eighteen months ago, the North Node moved into Pisces and the South Node into Virgo.

This axis called us to sit with our relationships to faith and reality. Spirit and science. The unseen and the physical. Service and surrender. Practicality and idealism. Logical thinking and intuition. Skill and artistry. What we physically need, and what our spirit needs.

A focus on mental and physical health was expected with this transit, and it arrived. So did the collective version of the faith and reality question: a huge focus on religion, and on the way religion and science influence our politics, has run through this entire season.

With the North Node in Pisces, we were called more deeply into faith, imagination, compassion and connection to spirit. It asked us to loosen our grip. To trust what we could feel before we could prove it.

With the South Node in Virgo, we were asked to release the distortions of an otherwise beautiful archetype. Perfectionism. Over-analysis. Criticism, of ourselves most of all. Anxiety dressed up as productivity. The belief that if we refined the structures enough, we would finally feel safe.

The highest potential of any nodal axis is integration. Healthy Pisces with healthy Virgo: a spiritual life with structure. Devotion with discernment. Rest and ritual living side by side.

Even though the nodes are changing signs, lessons don’t necessarily stop once the nodes move on. We keep integrating, keep building on what we learned and what changed. The curriculum moves forward this weekend. But the integration of the last eighteen months continues for years.

Aquarius and Leo sit opposite each other on the zodiac wheel, and this polarity teaches us essential lessons about individuality, expression and contribution.

Leo asks: what do I will? Aquarius asks: what do I know?

Leo is concerned with personal creativity. Aquarius with collective contribution. Leo leads from the heart. Aquarius leads from the ideal of a better future. Leo seeks personal expression. Aquarius seeks collective evolution. Leo wants to illuminate. Aquarius wants to understand and connect.

Opposite signs aren’t enemies. They’re two ends of the same thread, and both are asking, in their own way: how do I shine, and who is it for? So the South Node in Leo doesn’t mean we’re done with the lion. It means we’re going to be shown where our relationship with the lion has become tangled, so we can bring it back into balance.

The South Node works like a mirror held at an unflattering angle, very close to your face.

Over the next eighteen months, I think life is going to show us, sometimes gently and sometimes really not, the unhealthy angles of Leo we’ve all been living and expressing without noticing.

The exhaustion of the personal brand.

Living life for how it looks instead of how it genuinely feels.

Mistaking visibility for value.

Attention standing in for love.

Identities curated so carefully they’ve gone stiff, held so tightly they can’t grow anymore.

Expression that somewhere along the way became about being watched rather than being true…
