120-km hike with this Linux laptop backpack

First time in my life I've been on a 120-km-long hike (about 75 miles): 6 days, a 2078 m. elevation, and a 1994 m. descent. We did this with 18 students between the ages of 11 to 15 last week. During school time, I teach them computer science. My notebook was with me in my backpack all the time.

What do the best distros do to make their merch more popular?

Free software developers and Linux distributions are constantly joining our project. We are always glad to have any new partners. We adapt their new logo for embroidery, test the embroidery (usually it takes more than 10 embroiders to ensure the logo looks good), choose relevant colors, make samples and coordinate with partners. The whole process can take about a month. Finally, we launch…

Buy 4 items and the new barrel bag is on us

This October, I was asked by the local school to teach computer science to children. Now, I'm not only teaching, I'm also trying to extend our Linux collection here at HELLOTUX!

OpenVPN at HELLOTUX

There is a free software (with GPL license) that makes us feel secure in all four corners of the world. It makes our network traffic safe, and it connects us to our homes and workplaces. It's a software we set up for ourselves, but big corporations with thousands of employees are using it, too.

Finally a Linux gaming console!

I like compact and portable things, and I like playing video games. These two combine very well in the form of portable gaming consoles. I previously had a Linux-based (Raspbian?) Anbernic RG353V retro handheld console. It was interesting, but it was also very hard getting some games working and it also lacked power.Recently, I was looking on the used market for a PlayStation 5 and I saw a Steam…

Emotionally connected cotton shirts

Our T-shirts and polo shirts are 100% cotton, and our sweatshirts and jackets are 80% cotton – because cotton is a natural textile, very comfortable to wear, soft, breathable and durable. But the growing of cotton needs large amounts of water, pesticides and large areas of fertile land. Pollution through pesticides has a big influence on the environment, and it will take a long time to recover.…

Wine and Linux with Wine shirts

We are still searching for the Tux with beer boot screen. Our old friend has become very popular at our shop, so it would be interesting to find the original source. And we made an alternative Tux with wine, for those who prefer not only beer.

Shipping labels, the Linux-way

We have started using shipping labels on most of our international parcels, instead of plastic pouches. This is a small step towards making less plastic garbage; not our first and not our last one. Customs documentation can be made online, so to most destinations, plastic pouches provided by FedEx can be replaced with a small sticker. As usual, we are not searching for the easiest way (buying a…

Go-mail and HELLOTUX shirts

My wife Maria asked me today if I know how many countries of the world people are using our Linux shirts in. I made a quick check, and the number is 84.Most of them are from Europe and North America, but orders often come from Australia, Asia and South America as well. Some African Linux users show their commitment to Linux with our shirts too, especially from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Tanzania…

About colors

What is the favorite color of t-shirts at Hellotux? Of course, black. All our items are available in black. For professional computer users, it is a very important color, not only because it is comfortable to use, but there is no dirt visible and it makes you look slimmer. I think this color has special mystical meaning. Maybe one day I will learn the answer :))))But today, I don't want to write…
