I so can't make sense of Catholics being proud of belonging to the Church while also being against how it's corrupted.
Explanation by David Smuts: Correct. No one is above God or is worshippable. Not one's nation and not one's race or one's leaders and not even one's own religion is worshippable. God transcends all of those. Some Roman Catholics unfortunately are more "Roman" than they are "Catholic".
The temporal Church is established to serve God and not serve itself or to become an object of worship.
