December is here! In the Martin household, we are all prepped and ready for hot drinks and fuzzy socks season, and Jon has bought an armful of Christmas old dvds to binge through. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are feeling rested with full bellies. Lots of exciting stuff to share, so let’s get to it~

Happy Birthday Jon!

Jon, your birthday might always have a dash of chaos (this year someone hit his parked car in SF) with a heavy dose of rain, but in the end it’s always a good and memorable day with you. Happy birthday to the person that always has my back, the lovable golden retriever that balances this black cat energy.

You have been a crucial piece this fine art adventure puzzle, and I appreciate everything. It’s been amazing to watch you explore your creative side and blossom into an incredible potter!

We’re doing it! We’ve come up with a sale to fulfill all your last minute gift buying needs (we won’t tell). Or maybe you’re just coming by to treat yourself! Whatever the case, it is a great opportunity to see a pop up art show and buy paintings and pottery for a steal. Yes, the ugly duckling pottery bin will be bigger and better than ever, and the bargain paintings bin will be refreshed.

Our garage door opens Sunday December 21st from 11am - 4pm, and we’ll be wafting the scents of our hot apple cider and wintery snacks to lure you in!

To be clear, we never expect or pressure anyone to purchase things, so if you just want to come by, have a chat and browse the art, we would love to see you.

NEW WORK

Things have been BUSSSYYY over here, and despite having the intense urge to pick up a paintbrush, there hasn’t been a lot of time to create new work. However, there are five new ones to share at least.

Squeezed Lemons - 5”x7” - oil on panel

I don’t know why it took me so long to paint squeezed lemons, but when I saw these leftover wedges from dinner, I knew I had to try! I’ll attempt it again with hopefully more success, but it was a really fun challenge.

Autumn on Oak Grove - 16”x12” - oil

On our way home from the gym, the atmosphere was foggy yet you could see the brilliant glow of the red stop light. I raced in to get my things but by the time things were set up, the fog had nearly lifted entirely. It was still a fun one, and I’m glad I got the opportunity to paint those maple trees in their peak color.

Our neighbors are the sweetest and gifted us a bag of brilliant hachiya persimmons. They looked stunning in one of Jon’s handbuilt nerikomi bowls.

Tree in the Fog - 11”x14” - oil on panel

I am obsessed with fog but it doesn’t hang around for long. The best spot to paint it is usually the hills, and that day it wavered between foggy and clear. The colors are fascinating though, and it’s always exciting to see that wintery green peek through the dry grasses.

Satsuma Snack - 5”x7” - Gouache

Our oranges are incredible this year, and have been a daily snack for me all fall.
