Jesus Never Said It Would Be Easy

We’ve all heard it before: Jesus never said it would be easy. But if we’re honest, we kinda wish it was. I don’t think we’d be disappointed if hardship and heartache disappeared the moment we placed our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Nowadays, however, we gain perspective from God’s Word. In times of trouble and difficulty, we can cling to eternal truths. Let’s look at the following four:

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”—1 John 4:4, NKJV

Despite the evil one’s imprint on situations in this world, God’s greatness dwarfs him. Every. Single. Time. Oh, how comforting! Also, our awesome God doesn’t just work around us. He lives inside us. Wow.

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” —Romans 8:18

A stranger brought this verse to my attention, and I am ever grateful. Because truly, this promise holds immense encouragement. Are you walking through deep waters? Remember! God’s glory will take our breath away, and His splendor will outshine everything we endure on earth. Even now He is accomplishing something magnificent within you and me, which He’ll reveal on a coming day.

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” —John 16:33

The Lord foretold the tribulation we experience in this world. He knows what you are encountering right now, and He invites you to find peace in Him. Christ stands with you in unwavering strength, declaring His victory and calling you to let your flickering courage well up and spill out.

“Then he said to them, ‘Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” —Nehemiah 8:10

Though the sufferings and trials of life weary us, let’s cherish the joy of the LORD. Focusing on Him and understanding His Word aligns our thinking and cultivates joy. The Lord’s joy in us provides much-needed strength.
