Be the person behind the person

Most of our time is spent inside of our mind.

Thinking, solving, planning. And more thinking.

Also known as “the ego mind”, it’s the part of us that tries to justify our existence to others. How cool we are. How valuable we are. How to solve all of our problems so that we may be successful.

All in service of making sure we’re not thrown out of society.

It’s ridiculous.

We’re far past the stage where some slight will cause us to be “banished from the tribe”. It’s not a threat to our survival anymore.

Nobody liked our post on social media? Yeah, that’s not life threatening.

But our mind makes it seem so.

It’s time to break free.

Let’s find the person behind the personality. The real you.

Let’s do a simple exercise.

Let’s release the stories we tell ourselves. Stories like how we must reach a certain goal before we can rest, how our identity must be upheld, or why nobody must see our real selves.

If you strip out all of your stories right now… your beliefs, your opinions, plans, and thoughts. If you strip them out and become quiet on the inside… what’s left?

Now peel off one more layer. Your dreams. Aspirations. Emotions… motivations. Everything. Anything that defines you as you… at least according to your mind. Remove it.

And see what’s left.

Become silent on the inside.

Sit in this for a while. And see how it feels.

Breathe it out. As you read this… breathe in deeply… and on your exhale release all that you think of as your personality. Every last drop.

Breathe again. On the exhale, exhale your worries and fears. Become empty. And soak in this state.

Now what’s left?

And the answer for many of us is awareness. The person behind the personality.

Turns out you’re more than the ego mind. More than the person craving to be accepted, loved, included… turns out you already were all of these things on the inside. Behind the layers and layers of stories and thoughts and fears.

What are your stories? Why are you carrying them?

Do you really need them?

Be the person underneath. The person behind the person.

Be the real you.

We can’t wait to meet you.

The real you.

Blessings,
Jon
