I’ve been building a lot of features for Pagecord which is fun, but also exhausting (yes even with coding agents). This is in addition to trying to find a way to get more people to hear about Pagecord and try it, which is what my main focus has been and frankly it’s even more exhausting. I’m not yet convinced any of these efforts are paying off, but I remain hopeful that a needle somewhere will move in the right direction at some point soon.
One thing I’ve been doing in this regard is more social media blether than is probably good for me. It’s definitely good for awareness, even if awareness can’t actually be tracked. I’ve mainly been on Bluesky for the past year or two but, despite its post-Elon bounce, I’m convinced it’s going backwards. It just feels hollow, which is a shame. The vibe shift was so close, but it never happened. I think the leadership f**ked it up, but there’s still a chance they could take it to X and Threads. Here’s hoping.
I’ve also been engaging more on Mastodon which I really like because of the conversations. A lot of Pagecord customers are on there, so it’s nice to chat with them. I don’t really look at my feed on Masto though because I don’t follow many people because I don’t know who to follow. Plus I don’t need yet another feed to scroll through. Mainly there for the mentions.
I’ve also been back poking around X a bit more. Many good people in the Ruby community I know only hang there, and I’ve been trying to see if I can reach the IndieWeb communities. The signs are however that it’s a poor channel for Pagecord, which is not disappointing to be honest. There’s very good tech chat on there which I value, but you know there’ll be horrors happening around you even if you don’t ever see them. A glance at comments from anyone with a following will tell you all you need to know about what lurks beneath. It’s dark down there.
I’m finding it awkward to admit I have been on X which is frankly ridiculous, but it’s a place that Bluesky and Mastodon users fiercely despise (and vice versa tbf), and I know a lot of people read this blog who are on those channels. I posted about the platforms on Bluesky this evening and one response didn’t hold back which made me feel kinda bad. I know social media does this to people’s minds generally, but I find it a bit much. I suppose this is the world we choose to live in when we inhabit these places. It’s not good for me.
This is the part in the post where I hit you with a bolt of wisdom before a witty and insightful conclusion, but I’ve actually forgotten what my point was even supposed to be, and it’s late so I’m going to call it a day. Sorry about that.
I’ll take all this as a sign that it’s time for a bit of a social break.
