I said when I launched this Substack that it would be a collection of my very favourite things - particularly in Hazels Edit. Something close to my heart is food - good food, interesting flavours or incredible dining locations.
So with the sun continuing to beat down on us, I thought I would share my favourite Alfresco dining spots - namely in London.
If you’re visiting the big city, these are a few places you simply MUST visit this summer.
The Culpeper Rooftop is one of the most unique, innovative dining experiences in London. Open seasonally, serving homegrown ingredients, The Culpeper has taken Alfresco dining and elevated it.
The rooftop garden is planted with a perennial woodland focus, meaning it will be change and evolve as the years to come. Nestled in amongst Birch and Hazel trees, with a view overlooking the city skyline - this is an experience you simply don’t want to miss.
You may know The Rosewood for being a luxury hotel… and you wouldn’t be wrong. But what happens when you combine a luxury hotel with dining options? An unmissable dining experience.
They refer to themselves as “A culinary destination featuring global debuts and an ever-evolving experience of taste” and that is exactly what it is. Right in the heart of Mayfair, you can enjoy a range of different dining options - ranging from private and fine dining, to relaxed lunches and cafe culture.
I love this for a catch up with friends and simply watching the world go by… It’s also a brilliant people-watching spot!
Designed by a fellow florist and Chelsea Flower Show winner Luciano Giubbilei, the Garden is tucked away behind Ladbroke Hall.
Led by Chef Emanuele Pollini, they offer a seasonal Italian menu which includes Pollini’s signature dishes. As much as the food is definitely a stand out at Ladbroke Hall Garden, it’s impossible to ignore the truly unique dining setting. It’s rare to be in the middle of London, yet feel worlds away. Definitely not one to be missed!
1864 was a discovery of complete accident. In between meetings and trying to hunt our a new keyboard, I was in a desperate need to sit down and do some work - enter 1864. A rooftop oasis right in the heart of London.
Perched on the 6th floor of John Lewis Oxford Street, the rooftop bar offers and oasis of calm, with panoramic city views, cocktails, and a pretty delicious menu.
Now this one is slightly biased as I was on the board for 5 years. However it still remains one of my very favourite alfresco garden and gastro experiences - and was long before I was on the board!
Located in The Garden Museum, this is the perfect way to relax and unwind after discovering the museum - or simply to escape the hustle of London. A beautiful location, partnered with even more beautiful food.
When putting this together, I kept remembering incredible spots to recommend and not just in London. So let’s call this instalment number 1.
Maybe the next one will expand to garden spaces that aren’t dining related and maybe we’ll even expand out of London!
